It was narrated by Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, “A woman is married for four things, (namely), her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a loser.”
A religious woman is a person who fears Allah and performs all the obligatory acts of worship (ibadah) such as performing the obligatory prayers, fasting in the month of Ramadhan, paying alms (zakat) and covering her body except her face and the pals of her hands (aurat).
She abstains from all acts which Islam deems to be repugnant (abominable acts) such as backbiting, flirting, cheating and committing fornication.
It is also pertinent to highlight another hadith being narrated by Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Apostle said, “The best women among the camel riders are the women of Quraish.” (Another narrator said) The Prophet said, “The righteous among the women of Quraish are those who are kind to their young ones and who look after their husband’s property.”
Based on this hadith, a good wife and mother is someone who treats her young children with kindness and is trustworthy (amanah) in guarding her husband’s property.
