Hukm of Masturbation

Masturbation is haram in Islam. However, if a person fears that he might commit fornication, then masturbation is allowed.

However it is not encouraged to resort to masturbation as an alternative to prevent fornication as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advocated his followers to fast in order to prevent fornication as fasting reduces libido.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power.”
